Over a thousand women representing eight different sorority pledge classes danced Tuesday night in the thirteenth annual Theta Encore.
This year, Pi Beta Phi stole the show.
Theta Encore, a dance competition between Panhellenic’s fall pledge classes, is hosted each year by the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Known as one of the largest philanthropy events on the Ole Miss campus, Theta Encore benefits Theta’s national philanthropy Court Appointed Special Advocates and the Scarlet Lawrence Akins Foundation.
C.A.S.A. is an organization that advocates for abused and neglected children to ensure that their needs are heard. Theta’s local philanthropy, the Scarlet Lawrence Akins Foundation was established to help raise awareness about Melanoma after one of their sisters died of malignant melanoma in 2006.
This year’s Theta Encore was held at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts and was nothing short of competition, sorority pride and spectacular costumes.
Colonel Reb, Logan Rush; Coordinator of Greek Affairs, Rachel Burchfield; Kappa Alpha Theta’s house mom, Virginia Miller; and one of the founders of the Scarlet Lawrence Akins Foundation, Cheryl Moore, judged this year’s Theta Encore.
This years first place award went to the women of Pi Beta Phi who wore all black with the word “bad” painted on front of their shirts. Pi Phi’s music went along with the “bad” theme as the girls danced to songs from Michael Jackson and Willa Ford. Alpha Omicron Pi took second place as they danced to songs of Beyonce and with a theme of Glee, Kappa Delta took third place overall.
Kappa Alpha Theta gave out several other awards as well including best music, best theme, and best costume. The ladies of Delta Gamma danced their way from Candy land through the Game of LIFE to earn the awards of best music and costumes. Tri Delta and Kappa Delta tied for best theme.
Kappa Kappa Gamma was recognized as the sorority who donated the most pajamas for Bramlett Elementary, Alpha Omicron Pi received recognition as the winners of Theta’s spaghetti dinner, and Pi Beta Phi was announced as the winners of Theta’s Sign and Din.
