University of Mississippi baseball player Taylor Hashman, who suffered a serious head injury as the result of a physical altercation, emerged from surgery on Oct. 27, when doctors successfully replaced the back of his broken skull with a titanium plate.
Doctors are hopeful that Hashman will make a full recovery.
Originally a resident of Naples, Fla., Hashman entered the University of Mississippi in 2009. During his baseball career at Ole Miss, Hashman broke records for runs scored in a game.
Hashman “was a very personable guy, had one of those infectious personalities and had a passion for baseball,” Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco said. “He was a hard worker and brought a lot of leadership to the team.”
At the time of his injury, Hashman was about to embark on the last semester of his senior year at the University of Mississipi. Following graduation, Hashman had ambitions of playing baseball in the Minor Leagues.
Now, however, Hashman is slowly rebuilding his life. He is getting back in the gym and is turning his thoughts towards finishing his education and pursuing his passion for baseball.
Whether or not Hashman will return to the University of Mississippi as an active student is unclear.
