A Bungie Mystery

A mysterious countdown clock on Halo-creator Bungie’s Web sited Bungie.net came to an end last Thursday with the unveiling of a cryptic teaser trailer for an as-yet unnamed title.

The trailer showed the invasion/destruction of a futuristic cityscape and ended with a flash of the “Halo 3” emblem.

Although unconfirmed, many believe that this will be an expansion pack of sorts for the Halo 3 campaign, possibly available over Xbox Arcade.

New Rockin’ Tracks

After much speculation, MTV Games has confirmed that Rock Band 2 for the Wii will indeed be compatible with both downloadable content and online multiplayer.

This comes at a time when the Wii’s online capabilities are just being fully realized and is a huge relief for those who have long doubted Nintendo’s commitment to online compatibility.

A Mega-Return

After an incredible first day download tally of 60,000 units on WiiWare, MegaMan 9 is poised to be one of the most successful downloadable titles of all time. Today, MegaMan launches on the Xbox360 and promises to continue its immense success.

It seems gamers have really responded to the retro-gaming remake, so here’s hoping that in the future we see better treatment of our childhood favorites, coughBlueHedgehogcough.

This weekend, a report surfaced that Nintendo would soon be revealing a new version of their runaway console success, the Nintendo DS. While it soon became clear that this would not be a new console altogether, the new rumored features make it more than a shallow revamp of the DS console. When asked for a comment by gaming news Web site kotaku.com, Nintendo issued a statement that while “(they) are always developing new products ... (they) are unable to comment at this time.”

Among the rumored new features are a built-in camera, a music player and a vaguely stated increase in wireless capabilities.

Although I’m all for adding features for the DS, who honestly needs a camera and music playback on their DS when there is such ready access to either an iPod or computer?

It seems that Nintendo is attempting to compete with the PSP when they should be focusing their efforts on producing innovative and successful titles that stretch the limitations of the console as much as possible.

Nintendo is notorious for their lackluster support for online gaming, but the new Nintendo DS could very well remedy this situation.

With the success of Nintendo’s Virtual Console on the Wii, the rumored increase in wireless capabilities for the DS could and most definitely should include a handheld Virtual Console.

Can you imagine the profits Nintendo would reap if it would just open up its GameBoy and GameBoy Advance library to download through a Nintendo DS Virtual Console?

Regardless, Nintendo has yet to officially confirm or deny this rumored DS upgrade, so until they do, file this under rumors.
