The Oxford School Board voted down random drug testing of students in the board's last meeting, but the board will continue to discuss the issue at the next meeting May 19. The board passed the bill for discussion and has delayed its final decision while the committee that proposed the random drug testing makes a few changes to the new policy.
I received my first major gig at The Daily Mississippian during my sophomore year as city news editor. Gathered around the conference table in Bishop 201, I sat with my face upturned, listening to then Student Media Director Ralph Braseth give our new staff the rallying speech for a successful year.
Saying goodbye. It's one of those things in sports that's never easy, and has almost become cliché. Michael Jordan tried three times and never could get it right. Brett Favre is still trying. Roger Clemens? Nobody cares about his goodbye anymore. So now that it's time for me to say goodbye, I'm not exactly sure how.
We are at the end of the road, my friends. It has been a really long, painful semester for me (I took all the remaining prerequisites that I did not want to take ... all in the same semester), so it's not going to be bittersweet in the least when I peace out next week.
