So what if the economy is not at its best and buying a new car is considered a bad investment? There is nothing like that new car smell. And for those who want that new car smell, I have put together my second annual new car buyer’s guide.

So what if the economy is not at its best and buying a new car is considered a bad investment? There is nothing like that new car smell. And for those who want that new car smell, I have put together my second annual new car buyer’s guide.

All cars (and truck) are 2012 models and are organized by class. The vehicles were rated on both objective (price, performance, fuel economy, etc.) and subjective (comfort, appearance, driving experience, etc.) scores.

Drum roll, please.

John has an unfortunate story. He and his wife want to start a family, so they began searching for a house. The house they end up buying has a few problems, but it is a good starter house. The roof leaks, the cabinets need to be replaced and the foundation has some problems.

John has an unfortunate story. He and his wife want to start a family, so they began searching for a house. The house they end up buying has a few problems, but it is a good starter house. The roof leaks, the cabinets need to be replaced and the foundation has some problems.

After buying the house, like any responsible couple, they shopped for home insurance. They were told that the foundation will need to be repaired within the next year, so no insurance plan would cover the home’s foundation at a price John could afford.

In 1990, Phil Bryant was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives from the 59th District, becoming the first Republican ever elected from that district. In 2011, he was elected governor of the state of Mississippi. Bryant easily swept the 2011 election, as many expected, which many credit to the familiarity of his name.

Surrounded by his family and coaches, Aberdeen defensive end Channing Ward was set to make his college choice during a timeout in the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 5. Hats representing Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State sat on a table on the sidelines of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. When he picked up the Ole Miss hat to indicate his verbal commitment to join the Rebels next season, it was a huge win for new head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff.

Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech nearly 49 years ago, rallying over 200,000 civil rights supporters in Washington, D.C., during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Just over a week ago, Kelly Shannon and a group of University of Mississippi students were recognized for their efforts, this time through community service in King’s name.
King’s legacy lives on through Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, celebrated as a national holiday in the United States and observed as far away as Hiroshima.

Freshman guard Maurice Aniefiok is a long way from home. Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, Aniefiok played soccer growing up before ever picking up a basketball. From that day on, though, Aniefiok knew basketball was his ticket in life. He soon realized, however, that he needed to come to America to take his skills to the next level.

Why is Newt Gingrich running for president?

As Republicans are hopping off the Herman Cain train, former Speaker Newt Gingrich is gaining momentum in the current GOP presidential field. This marks a huge turnaround from a month ago, when experts were declaring Gingrich’s political aspirations a thing of the past. But as Republicans start to jump on the Gingrich bandwagon, they need to analyze who they’re really supporting.

Being considered the “fattest state in the Union” comes with its fair share of problems, one of the most notorious being Type 2 diabetes.
In 2010, Mississippi had the second-highest rate of diagnosed diabetes, a problem that is directly related to high obesity rates.
About 26 million people in America are diagnosed with diabetes, and according to the State Department of Health, 12 percent of Mississippi’s adult population has Type 2 diabetes, with over 890 deaths related to the disease.

People shouldn't complain about Tollison's swtich, they agreed with him before the switch.

In America, two letters are more important than the other 24. These two letters factor into every policy decision ever made, which in turn influence our daily lives. These two letters represent party affiliation, and a wrong letter beside a candidate’s name can change the outcome of an election.

Major banks across America are eliminating monthly debit card fees.

After widespread customer outrage, Bank of America recently announced that it will be axing the $5 fee. Customers who use their debit cards will no longer incur the fee beginning in January.

David Darnell, co-chief operating officer for Bank of America, said the cancelling of the fee is a result of listening to their custumers, according to Forbes.com.

What's behind Herman Cain's campaign?

Allegations of some serious misconduct are hitting the Herman Cain campaign from what seems to be droves of women. The accusations are dire and are too damaging for the candidate to keep ignoring them.

They hardly hurt Cain, however; the real loser in this debacle is the United States of America.

When Athletics Director Pete Boone said that Houston Nutt would be the last University of Mississippi football head coach he hired, he meant it.

When Athletics Director Pete Boone said that Houston Nutt would be the last University of Mississippi football head coach he hired, he meant it.

With the lack of on-the-field success over the past two years, Boone recommended to Chancellor Dan Jones that Nutt be replaced. At the same time, Boone said that it was time for a fresh approach and that he would step aside as athletics director.

“The Ole Miss family has accomplished so much in the past decade, but we are poised to go even further, even higher,” Boone said.

The 2011 recruiting class, ranked third nationally by Collegiate Baseball and fifth nationally by Baseball America, is finishing up their first fall practice that lasted six weeks and included the Red-Blue scrimmage October 15, 17 other intra-squad scrimmages and this week’s Red-Blue World Series.

Obama’s announcement is irrelevant for a reason – it’s too good to be true.

Here in Oxford, we’re stretched thin with events and activities vying for our time and attention.

Jerrell Powe just signed on to the onslaught of the Forward Rebels.

We’re more stressed out about midterms than Boone must be about his job, and apparently this thing called a “Green Fund” should be important to us, too.

If you’re not paying careful attention, you’d barely notice that Obama said he’s bringing our troops home from Iraq.

On Oct. 23, “Beware of Christians,” a documentary that digs into the journey of four students exploring Christianity in Europe, will be shown for free at the Orchard in Oxford.

“‘Beware of Christians’ is a hilarious Christian documentary about four guys trying to get past the label of ‘Christian’ and calling themselves one while trying to figure out how to take on the lifestyle,” Will Bakke said.

In the midst of desperate campaigning for the upcoming presidential election, many of us have been sizing up potential candidates.

Right now, most Americans are thinking about qualifications, experience and leadership ability. As the next few months go on, we will start thinking about each candidate’s political agendas, platforms and beliefs. That period of time is when things get overwhelmingly ridiculous.

Arianna entered my sixth-grade math classroom struggling with simple, basic computation, doing math on a second-grade level.

Although her struggles sometimes discouraged her, I knew that she was eager to be challenged. Each day she began class wide-eyed, notepaper on desk and pencil in hand, but by the end of class she was withdrawn and defeated, no matter how much she tried to master the sixth-grade concepts.  It was obvious that low achievement had defined her in elementary school, even though she brought high hopes to middle school.

While you were screaming for the home team to win, they were screaming for the government to listen.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, while thousands of people milled through the Grove and Circle on their way to a football game, a small but mighty group of people gathered in Memphis to combat the economic corruption in the United States. They call themselves Occupy Memphis, a branch among many being established around the country stemming from the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York.
