In Saturday’s 52-7 drumming by the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss also lost the services of senior cornerback Marcus Temple for the remainder of the season.

Imagine that, along with a full class load and maybe even a part-time job, you went out more than three times a week and physically beat yourself, and others, up. That is what the Ole Miss Rugby team goes through on a daily basis.

Sherif Ahmed said you really have to be on top of your priorities.

“You have to balance school and rugby,” the sophomore said. “It’s not too hard, though.”

Criminal justice senior Kaan Onay agreed with Ahmed, in that a player has stay on top of his work.

When defensive end Wayne Dorsey arrived at Ole Miss, he was thought to be a quick fix for a position in need of depth, but the 2010 season didn’t go as well as he had hoped.

But one year later, Dorsey is not only becoming a force on the Rebel defensive line, he is becoming something that is much needed on this young team – a leader.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- Once the Americans get over the disappointment of coming up just short at the Women’s World Cup, they’ll find plenty of reasons for optimism.

The U.S. team pulled together amid a series of challenges that, just a few years ago, would have broken it apart. And while the illustrious careers of captain Christie Rampone, Shannon Boxx and maybe Abby Wambach are nearing their end, Lauren Cheney, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe proved in Germany they are more than able successors.

The legend of Matt Smith started with a 12th-inning walk-off home run to give Ole Miss a dramatic 4-3 win over Virginia in game one of the 2009 Super Regional.

His game-winning home run over the wall in left-center was immortalized the next day as SportsCenter’s Top Play of The Day. However, in all-too-familiar fashion, the Diamond Rebels saw their season come to an end one game short of Omaha and the College World Series.

In August 2010, Mississippi became one of at least 20 states that made the selling and possession of known synthetic drugs illegal.

Throughout her career, she’s done just that. At Madison Central High School, Perry not only posted a 64-10 mark but also served as captain of the basketball team.

“I received a scholarship for softball, but basketball was always fun to play,” Perry said.

As winter weather slowly disappears, so goes the pea coat. I, for one, bid a sad farewell to this great article of clothing.

No longer will I be able to add instant swagger and class to my outfit while getting ready in the morning. It is quite depressing, really.

Looking back at last fall and this winter, I was proud to see a lot of my fellow students wearing pea coats.

We wore them to games, to class, to formals, to the Square, to church and even just to grab a bite at the JC.We wore them everywhere.
