I’m sick as I write this. My back aches, my shoulders are tense and I’ve found myself coughing up very interesting variations of the color green. Simply put, my body hates me right now. I don’t know what I did to upset it, but it is clearly getting its point across that it is very, very displeased with me.

The 2008 presidential election between Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama was purported to be about hope and change; the next president was going to change the status quo from a gridlocked Washington to a Washington that worked for the American people, rather than lobbyists and peddlers like Newt Gingrich, corporations and Wall Street. But the voters eventually got what they deserved.

On Wednesday, Associated Student Body President Taylor McGraw rejected legislation for the Green Fund, which would have initiated student-led environmental sustainability projects in addition to the university’s sustainability initiatives.

The legislation, which was approved by the ASB Senate, stated the university’s current model for sustainability projects were unattainable unless a consistent source of funding was made available.

Why is Newt Gingrich running for president?

As Republicans are hopping off the Herman Cain train, former Speaker Newt Gingrich is gaining momentum in the current GOP presidential field. This marks a huge turnaround from a month ago, when experts were declaring Gingrich’s political aspirations a thing of the past. But as Republicans start to jump on the Gingrich bandwagon, they need to analyze who they’re really supporting.

Are you lying about anything online?

Be honest, have you really read and loved the entire works of Dostoevsky in the original Russian? Do you really celebrate the entire catalogue of Woody Allen’s early works? If you’re lying about anything in an online profile, it could soon be a criminal offense if the White House gets its way.

For the more than 36 million Americans who carry federal student loan debt, totaling more than one trillion dollars, President Barack Obama’s new plan could significantly lighten the heavy burden of debt for those who qualify.

The new Obama plan to help alleviate college student loan debt might not be much help to current students, with loan consolidation not starting until 2012 and loan debt repayments being lowered to 10 percent from 15 percent in 2014.

Is the U.S. government setting itself up for failure with Obama's new student loan plan?

We live in an age of irresponsibility.

It appears that no one seems to take the blame when things go wrong, and everyone feels entitled to something.

Life costs money. We have to pay for living arrangements, food, insurance and, of course, taxes. A paycheck of “X” dollars can only go so far. So, when you add debt into the equation, “X” is worth even less.

Some people take out loans to help pay for these things while in college.

What's really behind the Green Fund?

This past week Ole Miss voted in support of the Green Fund, giving up a piece of our community so an elite minority can have its way. The buyer’s remorse is already kicking in.

The vision of this Green Fund is to make Ole Miss a sustainable campus. It aims to make us more environmentally friendly and save money in the process. These are noble claims, but they couldn’t be further from the truth.

We are writing in response to the letter from Virginia Houston that was published in last Thursday’s DM. We would like to clarify a few issues that were brought up by Virginia, as well as defend our actions and intentions regarding Food Day.

Obama’s announcement is irrelevant for a reason – it’s too good to be true.

Here in Oxford, we’re stretched thin with events and activities vying for our time and attention.

Jerrell Powe just signed on to the onslaught of the Forward Rebels.

We’re more stressed out about midterms than Boone must be about his job, and apparently this thing called a “Green Fund” should be important to us, too.

If you’re not paying careful attention, you’d barely notice that Obama said he’s bringing our troops home from Iraq.

Campus for Clean Energy is group of students collaborating to make Ole Miss a self-sustainable campus by campaigning for a green fund.
This past weekend, members of the group traveled to Roosevelt State Park to attend the Mississippi Alumni and Students for Sustainability Environmental Summit.  The group met with other students across the state and discussed their campuses going green.
The hot topic of this summit was the recent success of Mississippi State University’s student green fund vote and Ole Miss’s plan to have its own.

The motto is simple — reduce, reuse, recycle — but the process behind the words is a little more complicated.

The University of Mississippi and the city of Oxford have their own processes of disposing of recyclables, but one thing is the same: it takes a team to turn your soda can into something you can use again.

It’s all around us. It doesn’t sleep. Many die from it. It destroys dreams.

It’s used as a means for social mobility and political control. It can be found most in Mississippi, and is often characterized as a plague moving throughout regions like the Mississippi Delta and the Alabama Black Belt.

It’s poverty.

The city of Oxford will be making one more effort to decrease its carbon footprint by purchasing a hybrid truck.

During the Board of Aldermen meeting Aug. 19, Superintendent Lynn Robbins submitted a request to bring the city a 1-ton bucket truck.

The official request documented and granted was to apply for a reimbursement grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority and Electric Power Research Institute.

Katherine Stockett’s best-selling novel “The Help” is not only affecting Mississippi, but the rest of the country, as well.
“The Help” takes place in fictional 1963 Jackson during the civil rights era. At that time, segregation was a major issue, and the African-American struggle for equality was in full-swing.
Both the novel and the film illustrate how white supremacy in Mississippi influenced the lifestyles of wealthy whites and poor blacks, creating separate schools, churches, water fountains, bathrooms and more.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- After months of public nastiness and private negotiations, of court filings and rulings, of players and owners squabbling over more than $9 billion a year, NFL fans finally saw the handshake and heard the words they awaited: "Football's back."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith both used that phrase while standing shoulder-to-shoulder Monday, announcing their agreement on a 10-year deal to end the lockout that began in March.

In front of a packed house at the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics, the top two candidates for the Democratic nomination for governor debated over issues of the state.
