SUNDAY: FLORIDA 3, OLE MISS 0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It wasn’t in the cards for the Rebels on Sunday despite a strong second set as Ole Miss (8-15, 5-11 SEC) couldn’t find a rhythm in the first and third sets in a 3-0 loss to No. 17 Florida.

Regina Thomas led the Rebels with four kills and three blocks as a part of a .300 hitting performance against the Gators, while Amanda Philpot hit .333 with five kills.

At the halfway point of the season, the Ole Miss volleyball team is looking to get over the hump and get back on track from where it left off this past season when it reached the NCAA Tournament.

The Rebels (5-13, 1-9 SEC) hit the road this weekend to face Southeastern Conference rivals LSU (13-6, 6-3 SEC) and Arkansas (12-8, 4-5 SEC).

In matches earlier this season, Ole Miss lost in five sets to the Tigers and won in five sets against the Razorbacks, their only SEC win of the season.

SUNDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA 3, OLE MISS 1

It was another tough Southeastern Conference match for the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday when they took on the Gamecocks of South Carolina. Despite a quick start for the Rebels (5-13, 1-9 SEC), they fell 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 15-25, 22-25) to South Carolina (10-9, 1-8 SEC).

SUNDAY: TENNESSEE 3, OLE MISS 2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Kara Morgan put down a career-high 18 kills and was one of three Rebels to tally double-digit kills, but the effort came up just short following a late Lady Vols rally as Ole Miss (5-11, 1-7 SEC) fell to No. 19 Tennessee (15-2, 8-0 SEC) by a score of 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 13-15) on Sunday.

The Ole Miss volleyball team will take their roughest road trip so far this season, as they travel to Lexington to face Kentucky (14-3, 5-1 SEC) and then to Knoxville to face No. 19 Tennessee (13-2, 6-0 SEC) this weekend.

“It doesn’t get any easier for us,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin said. “We got to buckle down and get some things done this week.”

The Rebels have not started off conference play as predicted as this loss only adds to the woes thus far this season.

“You know we just didn’t make the right plays at the right time,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin said. “Hats off to Mississippi State who did in the fifth game.”

Talk about the job that baseball coach Mike Bianco has done.
That’s another one where he’s set the standard so high that you think in terms of being in a Super Regional and disappointed to a certain extent.

Like I tell him he’s the reason that our expectations are that high. Year in and year out he puts a great team out there.
