For the more than 36 million Americans who carry federal student loan debt, totaling more than one trillion dollars, President Barack Obama’s new plan could significantly lighten the heavy burden of debt for those who qualify.

The new Obama plan to help alleviate college student loan debt might not be much help to current students, with loan consolidation not starting until 2012 and loan debt repayments being lowered to 10 percent from 15 percent in 2014.

When the New Albany native takes out loans, he only accepts what he needs to pay for his education.
“I’m trying to manage it so when I do graduate and get a job, I’ll be able to pay it,” Ball said.

Drug convictions could affect federal student aid

The UM Office of Financial Aid sent an e-mail on September 7, 2010, informing all students that drug convictions could disqualify students for federal student aid and loans.

Manning gives back through $1 million donation

Mississippi high school students needing financial aid for college recently received a boost from New York Giants quarterback and Ole Miss alumnus Eli Manning.

Manning and his wife Abby recently donated $1 million to the Ole Miss Opportunity needbased scholarship program.
