After five long years, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry got their long-awaited revenge as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat 105-95 on Sunday night to become the 2011 NBA Champions.

The series began with storyline after storyline penned by the national media, and as the series went on, the attention only grew stronger.

1. We Really Don’t Like the Earth: Hey, remember that whole “unprecedented, horrific ecological disaster in the Gulf of Mexico” thing? Yeah, I sort of do too. I, like you, was pretty busy with getting prepped for Jersey Shore 2: Snooki 3D. We have priorities in America, people. Obviously, a problem we can’t see firsthand is not quite as real as the Tivo-ed Jersey Shore recap episode in front of us. And let’s face it, five thousand feet underwater is pretty hard to see. Unless you’re an oil-drenched fish.

That's one blog post, one online comment, two video responses, two telephone calls and a copy of the cartoon with comments written on it. No response was sent to [email protected], which is where we take all responses to any of our content. This is clearly stated on the opinion page in which the cartoon was placed, and not one reader responded.

“If you guys want to sleep right now and not wake up [until] July 1st, 2010, go ahead because it’s going to be a big day,” LeBron James teased in a 2008 postgame press conference in New York City, fully aware that ESPN would turn it into a subliminal messaging campaign by replaying it ad nauseam to keep the summer of 2010 warm long enough for even the wittiest of sports journalists to run out of one-liners to describe just how “hot” it is.
