Powe and Masoli, along with 13 of their teammates from last year’s squad, were in town for Ole Miss’ annual pro day, an opportunity for NFL scouts representing 24 different franchises to size up the abilities of the former Rebs up-close and personal.

In his first start, Jeremiah Masoli threw for a long score and ran for another, and the Ole Miss defense was able to avoid a second consecutive late-game collapse as the Rebels defeated Tulane 27-13 in New Orleans.

Jeremiah Masoli, the former Oregon quarterback who transferred to Ole Miss this summer, has been denied by the NCAA to play for the Rebels this season. 

 

Pete Boone, Ole Miss athletics director, said the Rebels have appealed the decision, and will know by Friday at the earliest or in a week by the latest the decision of the NCAA subcommittee on appeals. 

 

Boone said the NCAA gave two reasons for denying Masoli.

Just a few days ago, the quarterback situation at Ole Miss looked like this: Nathan Stanley in the starting-role with one collegiate touchdown and sparse mop-up duty under his belt, with redshirt freshman Raymond Cotton and junior college transfer Randall Mackey ready to take over if Stanley cracked under the pressure of SEC football, like every other quarterback we’ve had since Eli left for New York.
