A new chain of “schools” called Wands & Things are scheduled to open in select cities across the country (New York and Los Angeles first, of course) on July 16 to commemorate the last Harry Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” which premieres the day before.

The curriculum promises to train the average individual to become a wizard in 10 days or your money back.

While driving to class, I was listening to my recently downloaded copy of “Doo-wops & Hooligans” by Bruno Mars. The only song I knew before then was his chart-topping hit “Grenade” because I was too slow to catch on during the fame of “Just the Way You Are.”

As a kid, my sole desire for Saturday morning was to wake up and watch cartoons.

I found myself captivated by Cartoon Network, and watching the shows became part of my daily routine. On weeknights I would watch cartoons after homework, after a bath and just before bed.  

When I was a child, Dexter was a red-haired kid-scientist with an undercover “la-boooratory.” These days, Dexter is a pretty boy serial killer who just happens to be a forensic bloodstain pattern analyst for Miami Metro Police Department.

This is about the poor, defenseless sea animals of the Gulf: the sea turtles, the countless fish, shrimp and crustaceans, the sea gulls that fly about and yes, that yellow sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea.

Upon seeing the previews for the Fox television series Glee in the spring of 2009, I thought to myself that this series had potential for greatness… if, of course, certain steps were taken.

 

Upon seeing the previews for the Fox television series Glee in the spring of 2009, I thought to myself that this series had potential for greatness… if, of course, certain steps were taken.

 

To be great, the show would have to be properly groomed and also be devoid of the hackneyed scripts and plots that seem to ubiquitously haunt the teenage drama.
