From the Office of the Chancellor:

Dear Ole Miss Family,

In desperate need of a win, the Ole Miss Women’s basketball team hoped to find one against struggling Alabama, but the Lady Crimson Tide (11-14; 1-10 SEC) ended up defeating the Lady Rebels (12-13; 2-10 SEC) 52-47.

“I was very disappointed in how we started the game,” Head Coach Renee Ladner said. “I commend Alabama. They played good basketball.”
It was a tale of two halves for Ole Miss. The Rebels looked sluggish at the beginning, having trouble getting going.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Arnett Moultrie scored 18 points, Dee Bost dished a career-high 13 assists and No. 20 Mississippi State easily beat rival Mississippi 70-60 on Thursday night.
It was another efficient performance for the 6-foot-11 Moultrie, who was 9 of 14 from the field. Moultrie had plenty of easy looks thanks to several nice passes from Bost, who had eight assists in the first half as the Bulldogs built a 40-27 lead.
The 6-foot-2 senior’s 13 assists were the most by an SEC player this season.

Austin Miller: In your latest bracket on Monday, Ole Miss was one of your first four teams out. Elaborate on that and what’s your overall assessment of Ole Miss’ season?

Joe Lunardi: Ole Miss was one overtime away from being in the bracket with the game on Saturday. I think they’re going to stay right on the edge - either just in or just out – unless they can string (wins) together. They’ve pretty much been win one, lose one, win one, lose one, all the way since league play began. If they could have a week where they win twice, that would probably be enough to keep them there. If they string together a week more than once where they win twice, that would probably put them over the top. This bubble is soft, and they can do it. Playing .500 is not going to do it.

The local chapter for United Way has already exceeded its goal of $160,000 that began last November.

Donations from faculty and students across campus are a huge reason why the program has been so successful.

Since 1970, the Lafayette County chapter of United Way has found agencies that are serving people then raises money for them to help their cause.

Thanks in large part to on-campus events, United Way raised $10,000 more than it did last year.

Just 48 hours after losing a heartbreaker to Florida, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team returned to the court to host the South Carolina Gamecocks. The start of last night’s game between the Ole Miss Rebels and 13th-ranked Florida Gators could not have gone any better for the Rebels. After Florida scored the game’s first basket, Ole Miss went on a 20-2 run to take a 16-point lead behind the hot shooting of senior Terrance Henry and junior Nick Williams. After going into halftime with a 10-point deficit, however, the Gators stormed back and outscored the Rebels 36-22 in the second half to escape with a 64-60 win.

Austin Miller: What are your overall thoughts on this year’s Ole Miss recruiting class?

Keith Niebuhr: It’s always difficult when you have a new staff come in and have that kind of turnover. They lost some crucial time from when it was known that Nutt wasn’t going to be back, to the time the new staff was put into place. This group did a good job, first and foremost, of securing the recruits they already had. That’s the key. So you’re almost starting from scratch. Then they went out and have gotten a few more guys. It’s not huge in numbers, but it’s high in quality. And now they land Channing Ward, which was huge. That’s a big prize in Mississippi, so that’s significant.

As Rebels, our nature is to be somewhat arrogant. The Ole Miss "swagger” has existed for as long as anyone can remember — the pretentious looks we give to our opponents in the Grove, the enormous amount of pride we have for every single tradition Ole Miss possesses and the overall feeling of vast superiority at outside events are things every Rebel who has walked the halls of Ole Miss treasures. Outsiders view our attitude as arrogant or snooty; we tend to think of it more as a way of life. The creator of the expression, “We aren’t snobs, we’re just better than you,” must have attended Ole Miss.
