Sororities and fraternities give back to the Oxford community in a non-traditional way.

Along with game days and fall boots, sorority and fraternity swap season has begun.  For all the non-Greeks out there, swaps, also known as mixers or date parties, consist of a fraternity and a sorority coming together for a themed party at a local Oxford venue, usually a bar on the Square.

There are over 30 sororities and fraternities on the University of Mississippi campus, and most plan swaps at least a few times a semester.

Does anyone in our generation watch a television show in its natural time slot? With services like Hulu and DVR’s in tons of households, the classic idea of “primetime” television has quickly fallen to the wayside.

New Year’s has passed. By now, those pesky resolutions are in full swing, and the Turner Center will be filled with people working on their spring break bodies.

New Year’s has passed. By now, those pesky resolutions are in full swing, and the Turner Center will be filled with people working on their spring break bodies.

That is, until the beginning of March, when everyone will give up and go back to their normal ways.

Hopefully this year will be different for Patrick House, winner of The Biggest Loser 10, who is coming to Oxford today.

Starting at 400 pounds, House lost 181 pounds while on the hit television show, which gave the father of two a final weight of 219 pounds.

Skins, to say the least, is highly controversial: I’ll give it that. It’s also grotesque to watch. Of course, I’m not the target audience, and I’ll even go so far to say that it’s certainly not a show I would encourage (or even allow) my daughter to watch (much less admit that she might re-enact on her own some day).

She is only six, and of course by the time she’s a teenager, a nunnery will be mandatory.

As a kid, my sole desire for Saturday morning was to wake up and watch cartoons.

I found myself captivated by Cartoon Network, and watching the shows became part of my daily routine. On weeknights I would watch cartoons after homework, after a bath and just before bed.

When I was a child, Dexter was a red-haired kid-scientist with an undercover “la-boooratory.” These days, Dexter is a pretty boy serial killer who just happens to be a forensic bloodstain pattern analyst for Miami Metro Police Department.

I read something pretty disturbing the other day.

I read something pretty disturbing the other day.

Apparently in New York, there is a spat between the Fox Network and Cablevision, a cable service provider. It has even gone so far as for Cablevision to stop broadcasting Fox’s content.

Now, this happens from time to time when networks and cable service providers fail to negotiate pricing for content.

Basically, what happens is an elementary school equivalent fight where only the consumer loses.

For a lot of us, the number one most important part of each semester is our class schedule. It can either make or break us. Our daily lives revolve around it and our social activities must wait for it. For people like me, who also work full-time and have a family, it can be the difference between sanity and the rubber room. So, needless to say, our academic work load is vital to our mental and physical well-being.

This is about the poor, defenseless sea animals of the Gulf: the sea turtles, the countless fish, shrimp and crustaceans, the sea gulls that fly about and yes, that yellow sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea.
