In another matchup featuring Ole Miss and Mississippi State tonight, the No. 21 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team will battle the 14th-ranked Bulldogs of Mississippi State in the annual Mississippi Cup. Play from the River Hills Tennis Club in Jackson is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Burdette committed to Hugh Freeze at Arkansas State and switched to Ole Miss in late January. Originally a running back, he was forced to play quarterback as a senior. He rushed for over 1,200 yards as a junior at the running back position. Listed as an athlete, he could play in the defensive secondary or at running back for the Rebels.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team got off to a slow start against No. 24 Tennessee in the final round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, but got back in the match and held a 3-2 lead, before the Vols won the final two matches for a 4-3 victory here Monday night at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team got off to a slow start against No. 24 Tennessee in the final round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, but got back in the match and held a 3-2 lead, before the Vols won the final two matches for a 4-3 victory here Monday night at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.

With the loss, Ole Miss falls to 2-1 on the season, while Tennessee (4-1) advances to the ITA National Team Indoor Final 16.

The Ole Miss men’s basketball team will look to take down its second ranked opponent in two weeks, as the 13th-ranked Florida Gators visit Oxford to take on the Rebels tonight. Ole Miss (13-6, 3-2 SEC) is coming off back-to-back wins over Mississippi State and Georgia this past week. 

This season, the Rebels have defended their home court at the Tad Smith Coliseum with a perfect 8-0 record. After a 67-56 loss to Tennessee in its Southeastern Conference opener, Florida (15-4, 3-1 SEC) has rattled off three straight wins. However, the Gators are also just 1-4 on the road this season.

The undergraduate accountancy program at the University of Mississippi was recently ranked No. 10 in the nation among public universities by the Public Accounting Report.

The undergraduate accountancy program at the University of Mississippi was recently ranked No. 10 in the nation among public universities by the Public Accounting Report.
The Patterson School of Accountancy was also ranked No. 11 for its master’s degree program and no. 12 its the doctoral program.
Ole Miss was not the only SEC school to slide up in the ranks, as Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee are also in the top 30; however, Ole Miss was the only one to slide into the top 10.

DECEMBER 10: OLE MISS 80, MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE 56

The Rebels kicked off their winter break by welcoming Mississippi Valley State to Oxford. The Rebels had very little problem with the Delta Devils, taking a 41-22 lead into halftime before cruising the rest of the way to an 80-56 victory.

SOUTHAVEN  - Ole Miss started the season 9-1, winning six straight after a 30-point loss to Marquette in the Paradise Jam Tournament.

 However, the Rebels (9-3) lost 86-82 at Southern Miss this past Saturday, followed by a 68-56 loss to Middle Tennessee State in Southaven Wednesday night.

 “We just have a lot of inefficiencies,” Kennedy said of his team. “We don’t have one guy that’s really struggling. It’s our team. It’s our inability as a team.”

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze added a familiar name to his football staff Monday, as former Rebel player and assistant coach Matt Luke returns to Oxford as the offensive line coach. Barney Farrar has also been named Assistant Athletics Director for Community Relations.

“For a coach like Matt Luke to return to Ole Miss – a place where he is so loved and loves so dearly – is a home run for us,” Freeze said. “He is tireless recruiter and is a great representative of our university.”

1. LSU (12-0, 8-0 SEC, 1st last week): LSU all but locked up a spot in the BCS National Championship with a 41-17 trouncing of Arkansas, the Tigers’ third win over a top-three team this season. In all, LSU has beat seven top-25 teams by an average margin of victory of more than 20 points. Despite trailing 14-0 early in the second quarter, the Tigers outgained the Razorbacks 494-254, including 286-47 on the ground. Sophomore defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was the player of the game, tying the game on an electrifying 92-yard punt return for a touchdown, forcing two fumbles and recovering one of the them. LSU looks to keep its perfect season intact when they play Georgia in Saturday’s SEC Championship.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Ole Miss women had their best NCAA Regional performance in school history on Saturday at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by the University of Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Ole Miss women had their best NCAA Regional performance in school history on Saturday at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by the University of Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course.

Led by Logan Waites and Katie Breathitt, the Rebel women finished fourth out of 27 teams in the 6K race, just behind top-five nationally ranked squads Florida State and Vanderbilt, as well as Florida. By finishing fourth, Ole Miss placed ahead of fellow SEC squads Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Auburn.

The Rebels (9-15, 5-11 SEC) take on two ranked Southeastern Conference opponents, No. 15 Tennessee (22-3, 14-1 SEC) and No. 18 Kentucky (22-4, 13-2 SEC). The Rebels will honor their two senior players, Morgan Springer and Regina Thomas.

Initiative 27 was approved Tuesday with 63 percent to 37 percent statewide vote.

“It just makes me feel more confident that all the people voting are registered and have a right to be there voting,” said David Allen, an Oxford resident and nurse. “It feels safe, like along the same lines of when you charge for something on credit card and they ask for your ID.”

During his first two seasons in Oxford, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt did win. 

During his first two seasons in Oxford, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt did win. 

It started with a 31-30 signature win over No. 4 Florida in the Swamp, included back-to-back wins over LSU and finished with the second of back-to-back Cotton Bowl wins. However, after a disappointing 4-8 season, followed by a 2-7 start to this season, Athletics Pete Boone announced that the 2011 football season will be the last for head coach Houston Nutt.

Riding a three-game winning streak, the Ole Miss volleyball team will hit the road this weekend to take on South Carolina and No. 17 Florida. The winning streak started with a big road win at LSU before sweeping Georgia and Auburn at home last weekend.

“We had a great weekend for our program,” assistant coach Shannon Wells said. “Swept both conference opponents this weekend so it is the first time we have done that all season.”
