The Ole Miss named finalist for nation's top yearbook award

Amid one of the most controversial time periods in University of Mississippi history, the 2010-11 staff of the Ole Miss yearbook, The Ole Miss, came together and produced a yearbook that has since been recognized as one of the best in the country.
Each year, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association chooses finalists for its gold medal and The Ole Miss is making its first appearance on that list since the 2006-07 edition.

Campus drug and DUI arrests triple from ‘09 to ‘10

Even though arrests were up in 2010, Campus Police Chief Calvin Sellers does not believe that crime was up.

There were 111 drug charges compared to 33 in 2009, and DUIs were up from 20 to 71.

“It means that we as a police department are doing a better job of apprehending the criminals,” said Sellers, who has been the police chief for two and a half years. “It does not mean that crime is up.”

Sellers said the main reasoning for the upswing in arrests is staff stability.

University makes effort for a green campus

In April of 2008, former chancellor Khayat signed the American College and University President Climate Commitment, which formalized the efforts of the school to make a more environmentally-friendly campus. This ultimately began the Green Initiative.

University preps for fall with summer construction

The campus physical plant is finishing its summer construction projects at the University of Mississippi, less than a month before thousands of students return for the fall semester.
