The past year for Ole Miss defensive end Kentrell Lockett has been a rollercoaster to say the least, but as the 2011 season approaches, he is ready to get back out in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for another year of SEC football.

With the prospects in the 2012 recruiting class having completed summer camp season and starting their senior year, it’s time to take a look at how Ole Miss is doing so far for those 2012 prospects. Bennett Hipp, [email protected], recaps the Rebels’ ten commitments so far. Remember, these prospects cannot sign until February 2012.

Still was the first commitment the Rebels received for the 2012 class as he committed April 21. At his current size, he projects to play at guard at the next level and should be a good one. In addition to Ole Miss, Still claims offers from Tulane and Memphis.

This could be a streaker’s delight.

Wiggio, an online toolkit created to simplify group communication, is sponsoring the Nearly Naked Group Run on the Ole Miss campus tonight.

Students participating in the run are asked to donate the clothes they’re wearing and any other clothes they wish to donate after the race.

It was a rough weekend for Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco and company against Alabama. After a promising Friday night win, the Rebels went on to drop the final two games of the series.

Although I’m not so sure there would be such a backlash after the Alabama series loss if it wasn’t for another series loss to Tulane two weekends ago, I nevertheless saw some interesting things being said on the Internet.

Behind the arms of junior right-hander Matt Crouse (3-0) and senior right-hander Jake Morgan, the Ole Miss baseball team (10-1) took the opening game of the weekend series with a 5-1 victory over Tulane (7-3) on a rainy Friday night.

Behind the arms of junior right-hander Matt Crouse (3-0) and senior right-hander Jake Morgan, the Ole Miss baseball team (10-1) took the opening game of the weekend series with a 5-1 victory over Tulane (7-3) on a rainy Friday night.

Crouse allowed one run on four hits in five innings before a 50-minute rain delay in the top of the sixth. Morgan took over from there, pitching four scoreless innings to earn his third save of the season.

Following the Ole Miss tennis team’s win over Tulane on Saturday, Rebel coach Billy Chadwick was already talking about his team’s next opponent: the Memphis Tigers.

“When Memphis plays Ole Miss, it makes their year if they can beat Ole Miss,” Chadwick said. “That’s in every single sport. We know that, so we’ll be ready for them.”

Most of the focus in Oxford this weekend was centered around the Ole Miss men’s basketball team’s upset win over Alabama, but the Rebel’s No. 18 men’s tennis team (4-2) also had something to celebrate about. On Saturday, Billy Chadwick’s team picked up their fourth win of the 2011 spring season with a 6-1 defeat of Tulane (5-3).

Saturday’s match was a historic one for Chadwick, who captured his 500th career victory as Ole Miss’ men’s tennis coach with the win.

It has now been more than two weeks since the No. 18 Ole Miss men’s tennis team last played a match. The Rebels have not complained about it, but have rather used the two week break in a beneficial way.

“The two weeks has really given us a chance to get used to the outside (courts),” Ole Miss coach Billy Chadwick said. “It’s been a great two weeks.”

After a 43-21 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday, Ole Miss heads to Knoxville and looks to move one step closer to bowl eligibility against Tennessee at 11 a.m. on CBS.

With rivalry games against No. 5 LSU and No. 19 Mississippi State the next two weeks, Saturday’s game takes on added importance for the Rebels (4-5, 1-4 SEC).

“Even with the type of season we’ve had, we can still go to a bowl, so there’s still excitement,” sophomore defensive end D.T. Shackelford said.

Led by a powerful running game and an inspired second-half performance from a much-maligned defense, Ole Miss snapped a three-game losing streak with a 43-21 victory over Louisiana on Saturday night.

Jacksonville State 49 Ole Miss 48:

The old saying goes: “You win some and you lose some.” But that saying couldn’t have been referring to a Division I program losing to a Football Championship Subdivision opponent. Well, on the opening weekend of college football it did, and the Rebels were plastered onto the television screens of ESPN viewers for all the wrong reasons. Ole Miss led by 21 points at the half, but the Rebels’ defense – supposedly one of the top units in the country – couldn’t stop Jacksonville State’s spread-option attack in the second half. The Gamecocks put the game into overtime in the final seconds, and sealed the colossal upset on a two-point conversion in the second overtime.

Going into the season, all the focus was on who wasn’t in the Rebels backfield, not on who was. Fact is, Dexter McCluster is not coming back, but by no means is the Rebel backfield bare.

Ole Miss defeated Tulane Saturday night 27-13 in New Orleans. But as I walked out of the Superdome Saturday night, I was not ready to hit up Bourbon Street, nor was I ready to celebrate anything for that matter. Although a few drinks didn’t seem like that bad of an idea after the football I had just witnessed.
