I’ve spent the past three years complaining within the confines of my car about the driving in Oxford. 

If I’m not complaining about the students who deliberately ignore the cross walks on campus, it’s the folks on Jackson and University Avenue who switch lanes without considering those behind them, or simply the folks who have no sense of safe driving.

Around 2 p.m. Monday afternoon a week ago, at least a dozen student passengers witnessed a cyclist cut in front of the Green Route Oxford-University Transit system bus and continue to ride in front of it while in the South parking lot. 

 

Once the driver stopped to let passengers off, the cyclist rode up to the doors of the bus and tried to confront the driver, but the driver shut the doors and drove away.

Such was the case for junior English major Danielle Thornton Tuesday morning, who has been faithfully using the South Lot “Park and Ride” System since its inception at the beginning of the fall semester.

The Mississippi Arts Commission awarded a grant to the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council for the amount of $94,400 to further renovations at the Powerhouse. The Arts Council is the official arts agency for the city of Oxford and Lafayette County.

The Oxford Planning Commission approved three new hotels, including a Hampton Inn East Conference Center during a meeting Monday.
