Well, it’s a new year and a new semester, and for me, apparently, a new addiction, and I’m not sure that I’m all that happy about it.

The city of Oxford will see a new and improved farmer’s market in May of next year. Oxford has been deemed a food desert by the USDA, meaning low-income families are cut short of having healthy eating options. But now there’s hope that the newly established access to fresh produce, with the farmer’s market, will benefit those families and the city.

The Student Programming Board will show that they take “the most wonderful time of the year” seriously.
A new event called Grand Ole Christmas, a night of Christmas fun, will be from 7-11 p.m. in the Student Union.
“We are excited to host our annual Christmas event again this year,” said Bradley Baker, coordinator of campus programming. “We hope that this event is entertaining for not only Ole Miss students but families in the community as well.”

Imagine your typical Thanksgiving. There is a perfectly cooked turkey, friends and family all around, succulent honey ham, mouth-watering stuffing and the best pecan pie you’ve ever tasted. Shouldn’t everybody have an opportunity to enjoy that? Unfortunately, not everyone gets the chance to enjoy what most of us enjoy yearly.
The Lambda Sigma chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority saw fit to spend its break in Oxford to help those who would have gone without the Thanksgiving experience this year.

In the past few months, Subway, Toss It Up and other healthier dining options have come to The University of Mississippi, but some still do not think it is enough.

Students looking for a quick meal or snack on campus have plenty of options between the food court in the Student Union, coffee shops and the numerous vending machines in major buildings, but some students think there are not as many healthy eating options compared to unhealthy options.

Cinderella’s fairy godmother uses the flick of a magic wand to create a carriage out of a pumpkin. Janie Travis uses the stir of a spatula to create a pumpkin out of cake.
Travis rotates “Number 63: Pumpkin Cake with Burnt Orange Buttercream” while it sits glistening in the sunlight atop a white ceramic cake stand.

Many college students have gone through money problems during his or her college career.

With the new Campus Special mobile app, students will have their own personal coupon book in the palm of their hands.

The Campus Special mobile app was launched to 150 universities nationwide in August for students to download on their iPhones or Androids for free. The app combines the $100 coupon book that is available at the beginning of every semester for Ole Miss students with online food ordering from favorite local spots.

She walks up to a table in the front near the food court, which is filled with African Americans dressed in snap-back hats, high-heeled shoes and skirts.

“Is anyone sitting here?” she asks.

Is the U.S. government setting itself up for failure with Obama's new student loan plan?

We live in an age of irresponsibility.

It appears that no one seems to take the blame when things go wrong, and everyone feels entitled to something.

Life costs money. We have to pay for living arrangements, food, insurance and, of course, taxes. A paycheck of “X” dollars can only go so far. So, when you add debt into the equation, “X” is worth even less.

Some people take out loans to help pay for these things while in college.

What is personhood?

To Supporters of Initiative 26:

I am moved by your fervent compassion for ALL human beings, no matter what stage of development, and by the passion with which you speak of caring for and loving ALL of “the babies.”

To the Editor:

We are writing in response to the letter from Virginia Houston that was published in last Thursday’s DM. We would like to clarify a few issues that were brought up by Virginia, as well as defend our actions and intentions regarding Food Day.

Approximately 85 children of Oxford wait in line each Friday for their weekly ration of food to carry them through the weekend.

But to them their hunger never dies, it continues like a river week by week.

Worrying about the environment and the contents of the foods we consume are honorable and important issues that should concern all of us; especially considering the debates on genetically modified foods (whether they’re harmful or not) and the detrimental effects of climate change on our oceans and forests: greenpeace.org reports that climate change remains the biggest challenge to our environment.

Raise your glasses, local Oxonians; it’s that time of the year again.

To the Editor:

This is a response to John Woods III’s opinion piece that appeared in The Daily Mississippian on Oct. 17. It is refreshing to see student interest in the doings of Faculty Senate, a transparent organization that held a regularly scheduled meeting last Tuesday to discuss, among other things, voicing support for a university leadership under fire. It is also refreshing to see this student openly expressing his right to free speech on this campus.

May it remain unhindered for all of us.

Most members of the Ole Miss and Oxford community are unaware of the local farmers and rich agriculture that surrounds Oxford.

A food policy class at the University of Mississippi is hoping to change that with Food Day, which will take place Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 12 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The thought of being in a professional setting can be frightening to students.
The Ole Miss Athletics Department, along with the Ole Miss M-Club Alumni Chapter, had this in mind when organizing a “Backpack to Briefcase” dinner for junior and senior athletes.
The Monday night dinner, located at The Ole Miss Inn, was the 14th year that the dinner has been organized to prepare student-athletes for life beyond their sport.

Cancer is a scary word. Most of us know someone who has had it; some of us may have even had it ourselves.
In recent years, there has been a focus on breast cancer, and rightfully so.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, second only to skin cancer.
The statistics on breast cancer are sobering. In the United States, approximately one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime, and in 2010, there was an expected 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed.
